Eight band leaders, straight out of Trinidad mas. Pick one, take the road, and watch the streets turn your colours. Every dancer you sweep up jumps into your masquerade.

Horns up, grin on. The devil of the road plays rough and grows fast.

Full fancy mas in every colour at once. You’ll see Rainbow’s band before you hear it.

Big hat, bigger talk. The Robber’s speeches are long. His patience is short.

Crisp whites and a rolling step. The Sailor dances his band down the avenue.

Cool water on a hot road. Aqua flows through the streets and the crowd follows.

Painted blue, wings out, full of trouble. Where Blue Devil passes, the road remembers.

Leaves in his crown and the whole jungle in his step. Arms up, band behind.

Every road is a canvas. Painter’s band leaves the streets dripping in colour.
Between the bands, free revelers fill Port of Spain, dancing on their own until somebody sweeps them up. Recruit them and they wear your colours. Lose a clash and they wear somebody else’s.
